Endoscopy Packages

Gastric conditions are prevalent in Mexico, and the patient's quality of life is compromised by experiencing symptoms that range from annoying to disabling. To mention a few, we have:

  • Burning in the chest that occurs after eating and worsens at night
  • Acidic mouthfeel
  • Reflux
  • Constant pain in the pit of the stomach
  • Chest pain
  • Difficulty swallowing
  • Nausea / vomiting / regurgitation of food
  • Feeling a lump in the throat
  • Abdominal swelling after eating.
  • Weightloss.
  • Blood in the stool.
  • Discoloration in stools (red streaks, black stools) not attributed to recently consumed foods, medications, or supplements
  • Constipation or diarrhea for more than a week
  • Abdominal cramps

Sometimes, there may also be other types of more subtle symptoms not directly related to an upset stomach, which can also be related to gastric conditions; some of these may be:

  • Difficulty to sleep
  • Snoring, sleep apnea
  • Trouble breathing, including first-time or worsening asthma
  • Laryngitis
  • The feeling of shortness of breath

Life habits such as an unbalanced diet, prolonged fasting, lack of water consumption, etc., cause different medical conditions, manifesting with the symptoms described, and are pretty standard today.

The problem arises when these symptoms are ignored because they are so common and self-medication with over-the-counter medications is initiated. Masking the problem with symptomatic medication can eventually worsen an underlying condition; this is where a Gastric Endoscopy can be helpful.

In an endoscopy, a long and flexible tube is inserted, and a tiny camera allows the doctor to explore and examine the conditions of the internal organs and help discover the origin of the discomfort.

The two best-known studies are the Panendoscopy (Study of the upper digestive system –esophagus, stomach, duodenum-) and Colonoscopy (Study of the lower digestive system – anus, rectum, large intestine). These studies are always performed under anesthesia for the patient's comfort, in addition to being a quick procedure.

Endoscopies can be Diagnostic or Therapeutic.

Diagnostic. Its objective is to identify any abnormality in the digestive system; it may include a biopsy (tissue sample) for laboratory analysis.

Therapeutic. Its objective is to deal with an already identified situation directly,

Some of the conditions that can be detected/treated with endoscopies are:

  • Esophageal varices
  • Hiatal hernia
  • Gastric Ulcers
  • Duodenal Ulcers
  • Removal of foreign bodies from the esophagus (for example: coins, toys, etc.)
  • Hemorrhoids
  • Polyps (accumulated extra tissue)
  • Diverticula
  • Masses
